About Creative Therapy

Creative Therapy is extremely beneficial when working with children. It is a safe and gentle therapy where children can explore events that have troubled them and work towards a more resourceful life. As a result of therapy, children disengaged from school or isolated due to relationship breakdowns become engaged, proactive and more confident. Creative therapies are also an important tool for those who have difficulties in communicating their needs and finding the words to describe how they feel.

Talking therapy alone sometimes is not enough when working with young people. Creative Therapy tools allow the child to freely demonstrate through play, the trauma and conflict they experience. This is very beneficial when the child is confused about events and how they feel. For example; a dolls house is used to help the child explain and demonstrate their experiences that otherwise would be difficult and painful to verbalise.

During Creative Therapy there are opportunities to use art materials, therapeutic play, the dolls house and the sand tray - these tools are underpinned by Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counselling.

We have no magic wand to make events disappear but we can help that young person live more resourcefully - helping them to find coping mechanisms and giving non-judgemental support. This often leads to children being less resistant towards learning and can make their relationships with peers and adults more manageable..
